Q:
What is a recruiter?
A:
Some people affectionately call us "headhunters" but we're more than that. We are truly consultants to both companies and individuals.
It is our job to know how companies can get better through a variety of "people
solutions," which includes recruitment. For individuals, we like to work with people to help them achieve their personal dreams. This usually means identifying their strengths, skills, and personality traits and finding them the right opportunity in which to flourish personally as well as professionally.
Q:
How do you work?
A:
Companies pay us for our services. So we tend to listen very carefully to what companies say their concerns are and then we try to figure out ways to
address them. Typically, it involves an "open" position within a company. So we will be asked by the company to find the right person for that position. After determining what the necessary skills are and other job qualifications,
we'll search for the right person to fill that job opening. It can be a long and tedious process as we may have hundreds, if not thousands, of candidates to review and consider.
Q:
Why should I work with a recruiter?
A:
One, it's free. Companies pay us a fee for bringing them the right talent that will help their companies grow. Two, our job is to know people in the right places. People that can help you land a better job, with better pay, benefits, and work environment. Three, recruiters can also better represent you. Instead of relying on a paper resume to break through the clutter, we actually present you and your credentials to the company. We highlight your skills, abilities, and personality. We go beyond the words on a paper to help the client realize the potential benefits of you, the candidate.
Q:
What makes you different from all the other recruiting firms I've talked to?
A:
Experience. With over 30 years in this businesss we have great contacts and a history of success that's hard to match anywhere in the country. Expertise. Our professional recruiters have high standards and know the right way to do business. That includes making a commitment to stay in touch with you to let you know exactly what's happening with the search process. And we'll tell you what's going on with the company and the way they think and operate. This gives you great insights into the company and allows you a better perspective so that you can determine if you want to work for this company.
Q:
How do we get started?
A:
If this is the first time you are contacting one of our
recruiters, this website is the best place to start. We
recommend you start by registering on our Job
Board (on the left). Once registered you can search our
ever-changing database of open positions to find one that you feel
you are qualified for and would be interested in more information.
Once you find that position in the job board you can inquire about
it right there online, or call us
and ask to speak to that recruiter referencing the job reference
code. When you call, your resume will already be in our
database and we can get right to business.
Q:
I already work with a recruiter (or many of them.) Is that a good idea?
A:
Like any relationship, the one with your recruiter should be built on trust. We would prefer to have an exclusive relationship with you because we can then position you in a more favorable light. It also means that we don't run the risk of presenting you to a client and become embarrassed when they say that they've already "met" you because of what another recruiter has done. You need to be very open and honest with us on who you are talking to and what opportunities you have already investigated. Please discuss your relationships with your recruiter so that he/she can work harder for you.
Q:
My resume is posted on those job boards for potential employers to see. Is that something I should be doing?
A:
Our advice is no. If your resume is posted on a job board and then we present you, the company can claim that they found you on the job board. It means that we can no longer represent you properly and would be forced to step back and out of the situation.
Q:
You presented me with a job opportunity that I'm really not interested in. Should I go ahead and try for an interview?
A:
No. Remember that our goal is to make you happy and get you back on the right career path. You have the right to say "No" to any position we present you and to provide us with your thoughts and comments. It's got to be right for you and not just the company.
Q:
Will you help me with writing a resume?
A:
We will give you advice, but we expect that you will complete your own resume. Send it to us so that we can determine your specific skill sets and strengths. We typically
do not send out resumes because we don't think they do justice to a
candidate's potential. However, we do need your background information to better understand your career to date and your overall potential.
Q:
How fast can I expect job opportunities to come in?
A:
This Depends on what you're looking for, the economic situation, your skills and experience to date. It could only be a day or
it could take over a year. Your situation could be more urgent if you have financial demands causing you to be more open to new opportunities. Talk to your personal recruiter and he/she can update you as to what's happening in the marketplace.
Q:
How often should I be calling my recruiter?
A:
Feel free to call and/or write as often as you want, but recognize that the recruiter is trying to make contact with many companies and candidates. As a result, he/she will typically be on the phone having those
conversations, which means that you will more than likely get a voice mail. But don't worry. Your recruiter will call or write you back within 24 - 48 hours with the information that you are looking for.
Q:
What if I only want to be presented opportunities within an hour of my home? I don't want someone calling me about positions in cities I don't want to move to.
A:
This isn't a problem, as long as you have had a realistic discussion with your recruiter explaining what you're looking for. Mention to your recruiter the job limitations and the will attempt to assist you in looking.
Q:
How will a recruiter help me on the job interview?
A:
Our recruiters will always call you and provide you with specific information about the company you are visiting. They will tell you the client's like, dislikes and other important information to help you in your career search. Our recruiters provide you the support you need to make the best possible impression.
Q:
Does the recruiter negotiate salary and benefits?
A:
Yes. Leave all the negotiation to your recruiter. This will avoid placing you in the middle Our recruiters have plenty of experience and know what the market conditions are. They will lobby to get you the best possible package.
Q:
What other things does a recruiter do?
A:
Recruiters can provide you with resume assistance, career counseling, skill set development and advice on the best way to "market" yourself. Our recruiters go the next step to make sure that you are presented favorably and with the best chances of success.
